MANPOWER PROBLEM
SOLUTION STILL VITAL, SAYS MR. HOLLAND Recd. 7 p.jn. Melbourne, Nov. 16. The similarity of New Zealand and Australian problems has impressed Mr. S. G. Holland, the New Zealand Opposition leader, who is visiting Melbourne. He said that New Zealand's manpower problem was similar to Australia's. A solution could not be longer delayed, as it was impossible tor New Zealand to maintain her present military commitments and at the same time increase production to the extent required. Since' his arrival in Melbourne last week Mr. Holland has had discussions with Mr. Curtin, Mr. Menzies and other public men. From these discussions he was convinced that Australia and New Zealand must reach a common understanding and a common approach in future Pacific control. A regular exchange of opinion on this problem was of pressing concern, and such interchanges should be by representatives of all parties, not merely of the parties at present in power. Mr. Holland leaves on Tuesday for Adelaide.
