She is on her way to Dunedin where she will conduct a special training course for cubmasters from North and South Otago and from Southland. RED CROSS SHOP DAY Home-made soft toys, including realistic looking monkeys, spaniels, rabbits, squirrels and teddy bears, have been made for the shop day to be held by the Wanganui Red Cross Sub-Centre voluntary aid workers on Friday in the Fun Parlour premises. Contributions to the produce, cake, flower, and jumble stall will be gratefully received. The latter stall will be held in the Red Cross Rooms. ENGAGEMENTS. Therefore members are looKing forward to wider interests for 1944. Mrs. Wickham eulogised tne year s work of the president, Mrs. Paul, adding her tribute, and coupling the secretary s name. The president suitably replied, and wished all the happiest possible festive season. A delicious afternoon tea served by Mrs. Sam and H. L. Dustin concluded the meeting.

POKAKA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The November meeting of the Pokaka Women’s Institute was favoured ’with fine weather and so was well attended. Arrangements ior birthday celebrations next month were discussed. Several more acknowledgments ior soldier’s parcels have been received and also a soldier’s pennant. The president read an article on International Day and several members gave a tai). .1 different countries and displayed articles from that country. The monthly competition was “an article made from a flour bag, ’ and was won by Mrs. Thoreson with a beautifully embroidered supper cloth. The roll call, “Mistakes in the Kitchen,” caused much amusement. The meeting closed with the New Zealand Anthem.

OHAKUNE WOMEN’S INSTTUTE

The monthly meeting of the Ohakune W.l. was held in the Railway Social Hall on November 9, Mis. Harris presiding, international Day was celebrated with an Irish afternoon. Mesdamcs Scott, Petherbridge. Klist, Polkinghorne, Whyman, and Woolhouse (in costume) gave delightful renderings of Irish melodies old and new. These were interspersed with many amusing “Irishism” by

Mesdames Curran and Hay dressed as Pat and Mike. Mrs Eaton gave an amusing report of members’ recent trip to Taihape nad a resume of the federation proceedings. Competitions were won as follows:—Premier Flower, Mrs. Eaton 1; potato scones. Mrs. Southon 1, Mrs. Eaton 2; shamrock oven cloth, Mrs. Townson 1 Mrs. Whyman 2.
