SEAMAN HONOURED (0.C.) Patea. Nov. 16. A complimentary dance in honour of Seaman D. Quickenden was held in tne Druids’ Hall, there being a large attendance. The Mayor, Mr. F. Ramsbottom, presented Seaman Quickenden with a wallet and cheque on behalf of the Patea Patriotic Social Committee. Messrs. J. Haworth and J. H. Blake were masters of ceremonies. RED CROSS SUB-CENTRE The Patea Sub-Centre ot the New* Zealand Red Cross Society held a most successful shop day recently when close on £7O was raised. GOLF CLUB CLOSING DAY The Patea Golf Club s closing day was held on Saturday when the following matches were played: Mixed foursome. Miss S. Campbell and E. C. Gilbert; approaching and putting women, Mrs. B. Haseltine; men, B. Roots; long drive: women, Miss S. Campbell; men. D. Roots. The president, Major J. N. Anderson, D. 5.0., presented the trophies. FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION Keen competition took place last week among members of the Patea Fire Brigade for a trophy presented by Mr. J. F. D. Winchester, almost every member of the brigade from the superintendent downwards, takin.4 part. Following were the leading scores: Supl. N. R. Coad: Run 61 4-5 sec., penalty Isec., handicap 4sec.; time 58 4-5. Foreman M. Fitzwater: 63 2-5, 0. 3, time 59 2-ssec. Secretary W. Millan: 67 1-5, 7. time 61 l-ssec. j ierman R.
