FURTHER PROTESTS
SAUDI ARABIA AND IRAK
Recd. 6 p.m. London, Nov. 15. The King of Saudi Arabia has sent a telegram to Mr. Churchill protesting against the drastic action of the French authorities in the Lebanon. He says that the French action has created the worst impression among the Arab people, and he appeals to Mr. Churchill to use his influence with the French authorities to restore the situation.
The King of Saudi Arabia also sent telegrams to President Roosevelt and General de Gaulle.
Another protest against the French action has been issued by the Irak Legation in London.
While in Beirut. Mr. Casey, besides meeting General Spears, the British Minister, and the Commander of the Ninth Army, Lieut.-General W. G. Holmes, had talks with the American Minister.
A correspondent says it is felt that prompt action by the French authorities is required to restore order in territory which is stategically of the first importance to the Allied war . effort. The latest reports in London say that the general situation is now quieter.
