LIVESTOCK MARKETS

TARANAKI VALUES There has been little variation in the general trading over the past week, reports the Farmers Co-op. in their live stock summary. Weather conditions have been well in favour of pasture growth and this is one factor that has helped sales of grazing classes. The feed has come quickly and buyers have been keen to secure suitable classes, and business has been remarkably brisk with vendors in command of the market. Enquiry lor store sheep is strong., but vendors are disinclined to part with holdings as they themselves would znd it hard to replace. However, those who are prepared to sell are in a position to demand attractive terms. The store cattle market is also reported as being particularly active, and here again graziers are in the market very strongly, and appreciation in values is recorded for all classes. Quotations of cattle are very limited and it would appear that some difficulty will be experienced in supplying the demand. Fat stock prices are again firm with late rates ruling, particularly for all quality beef and mutton. Values for the latter, thpt of wetners, are again equal to those reported last week, but ewe mutton prices are considerably easier.

All cattle suitable for replacements are finding buyers readily, particularly for best quality classes but cattle of indifferent grades are harder to quit. The market for Jersey oddments is aso very active and all classes are participating in free sales, the different values showing a slight improvement over late rates. ’Those recorded at the Hawera sale on Thursday last were as follows:
