PEARL HARBOUR ECHO

TRIAL OF U.S. OFFICERS POSTPONED Recd. 8 p.m. Washington, Oct. 5. The War Department announced that the Secretary of War, Mr. Henry Stimson, and the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Frank Knox, concluded that it was not desirable in the public interest to proceed at: present with the trials of Rear-Admiral Kimmel and Major-General Short, officers in charge of Hawaii when the Japanese struck at Pearl Harbour. The announcement said it was decided to postpone proceedings against those officers until such time in the near future as may be decided upon as appropriate, and added that both officers voluntarily agreed to waive the Statute of Limitations for the duration and six months thereafter. Postponement will not affect the existing rights of the Government or the officers concerned.
