OBITUARY.

I 1 CAPTAIN WILLCOCKS. The death occurred suddenly on Tuesday of Captain Cecil Robert Hazelwood Willcocks, senior signalman at Westport. Captain Willcocks, who was 54, served in the last war with the Nelson Battalion, Naval Brigade, at Antwerp and on Gallipoli, where he was severely wounded. Later he served in H.M.S. Brocklesby ond Slinger in the North Sea and in the Eastern Mediterranean in H.M.S. Celtic Pride as an officer of the Royal Naval Reserve. Following his return to New Zealand he was harbourmaster at Apia, Western Samoa, for 10 years. Later he was master of the Tees, trading on the Chatham Island run, and then he took up his appointment at Westport. Captain Willcocks was born at Napier. MR. F. W. GRAINGER. The death occurred in hospital in Wellington on Thursday, after a brief illness, of Mr. Frederick W. Grainger, inspector and supervisor of shipping for the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board. He was particularly well known among the farming, seafaring and business communities in both Wellington and Taranaki. For many years Mr. Grainger took a prominent part in Masonic affairs. He held various offices in the New Zealand Grand Lodge and also in other branches of freemasonry, and was a keen and popular member of the Thorndon Lodge. He was also a keen bowler. Mr. Grainger is survived by Mrs. Grainger and an adult family of four daughters and two sons. The two sons are overseas, one being an engineer in the merchant navy. The other, a member of the Second N.Z.E.F., was captured in Crete and is a prisoner of war in Germany. MR. D. M. DEANE. The death occurred ercently at Caulfield, Victoria, if Mr. D. M. Deane, a well-known Australian mining engineer, who practised for a time In New Zealand. From early experience gained in Western Australia he made a lifetime study of refractory ores and did experimental work at tse Talisman mine, Karangahake. He also supervised mining operations in various parts of Australia, Tasmania and Fiji. He was a member of the Masonic Order. He is survived by his wife. MRS. T. WHITE. The death occurred on Wednesday of Mrs. Clara Minot White, aged 77 years, wife of Mr. T. T. A. A. White, of Taupiri. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. T. H. White, and her father spent many years in Auckland and Hamilton as an architect. Mrs. White was secretary of the Taupiri School Committee and during the last war was president of the Women’s Patriotic Committee. She is survived by her husband and two daughters.
