LONG TERM OF SERVICE (P.A.) Wellington, Oct. 1. Retiring after 43 years in the Public Service, the Surveyor-General, Mr. H. E. Walshe, was met by a number of departmental officers who paid tribute to his work during fifteen years in office. A suitable presentation was made. Mr. Walshe entered the department as a draughting cadet at Gisborne in 1900 and held a variety of appointments in different districts. During his term of office as Surveyor-General he has been prominent in town planning and inter-departmental activities. He also supervised the setting up of a special Geodetic survey and top<¥ mopping branches. The outstanding feature of his career was the personal supervision of the reorganisation and reconstruction of the survey and title records of the Napier office, which was destroyed by fire following the 1931 earthquake.
