VICE-REGAL. The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, was present yesterday at an R.N.Z.A.F. station, where he said “goodbye” to Mrs. Roosevelt on her departure from New Zealand. Later His Excellency attended church parade at that station. Subsequently the Governor-General received Judge R. P. Patterson, United States Undersecretary for War, and LieutenantGeneral W. S. Knudsen and members of their commission. His Excellency left for Wellington yesterday afternoon.—P.A. Mr. John Ince has been appointed a member of the Manawatu Licensing Committee. Mr. A. J. Pritchard, who has been visiting the south, has returned to Wanganui. Sir Austin Harris, retiring director of the National Bank of New Zealand, and chairman from 1932 to 1938, did not seek re-election at the annual meeting in London. Dr. R. S. Allan and Mr. R. S. Duff (acting director of the Canterbury Museum) have been elected to represent the Canterbury University College Council on the board set up by the Canterbury branch of the Royal Society of New Zealand to investigate the wild flora and fauna of New Zealand and formulate a policy. Mr. Arthur Cerutty, former manager of the Auckland branch of Huddart Parker, Ltd., has died at the age of 70. Mr. Cerutty retired in 19j8 after 48 years’ service with the company. He was a'member of the Titirangi Golf Club and the Epsom Bowling Club. His wife and a daughter survive him.

Flying-Officer Gordon A. L. Webby has been promoted to the rank of Flight-Lieutenant, according to cable advice received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Webby, Wanganui East. Flight-Lieutenant Webby, who has been stationed in the Bahamas, recently arrived in England. As a pilot-officer he was seriously injured about two years ago, but made a remarkable recovery.
