The death occurred suddenly •shortly after 10 o'clock on Wednesday night at his home in Wellington, o/ Major James Robert Kirk, M.B.E. Major Kirk, who was in his later 60’s, was born and educated in Dunedin, was a barrister, and vas also director of several important companies, including the Australian Provincial Assurance Association Ltd., and Q-tol Fluenzol Laboratories Ltd. Mr. W. B. Russell, who has been manager of the Public Service garage for the past 12 months, has been appointed telephone manager at Wellington On Wednesday night he was farewelled by the staff of the garage at a social gathering. Before going to Wellington, Mr. Russell was district organiser of national savings at Christchurch and he was organiser of the Wellington metropolitan area in the recent Liberty Loan campaign.

Lieutenant K. Dyer, assistant area officer in charge of records at the Army Office, Wanganui, who leaves shortly on transfer to Napier, was met by the area records staff and presented with a smoker’s set. The area staff officer, Major D. W. Curham, M.C., Lieutenant M. G. Bignell, and Sergt.-Major D. McL. Lewis spoke appreciatively of Lieutenant Dyer’s service during his 17 months in Wanganui as records officer, and of the nappy relations which had always existed between Lieutenant Dyer and the staff.
