CIVILIAN GARMENTS
PLANNING FOR PRODUCTION (P.A.) Wellington Sept. 1. Referring .to the arrangements being made by the Government for the manufacture in the Dominion of essential civilian requirements of garments. the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, said to-day that these arrangements involve a comprehensive survey of the present, and potential productive capacity of each section of the garment manufacturing industry. Thp industry was organised on a National basis under the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation, and because of the national scope of this organisation h? had authorised the federation to obtain lull data from each individual firm in the industry in furtherance of planning civilian garment production. Action taken by the federation would be directed through lh n following national trade group organisations, representing each section of the industry: The New Zealand Men’s and Boys’ Outer Clothing Manufacturers’ Federation, the Women’s and Girls’ Outerwear Manufacturers’ Federation the Shirt and Pyjama Manufacturers’ Federation, and the knitwear industry group. The Minister expressed the hope that all firms within tne industry would make the information reauired available to the federation promptly, and he asked for co-operation by manufacturers to enable a comprehensive and accurate picture of th° present and potential position to be made available at an early date.
