NEW CHIEF OF STAFF
LUFTWAFFE APPOINTMENT Recd. 7 p.m. London, Aug. 31. General Guenther Korten has been appointed Chief of Staff of the Luftwaffe in succession to Colonel-General Jeschenek. The Daily Telegraph’s aviation writer says that Korten’s appointment is likely to result in greater offensive action by the Luftw r affe. He is reported to be utterly ruthless and domineering. He organised the raid on Coventry and also the later London raids and was the brain behind the air assau’t on the Balkans and Cret rt . Recenthe has commanded Luftwaffe units on the Leningrad front. ' He is 45 vears old and was one of Hitler’s earliest supporters.
