PROVING IT AGAIN

A number of electors will no doubt be surprised to learn that a Licensing referendum is to be held again in conjunction with the General Elections on September 25th. The fact is, the law declares that a referendum on the licensing question must be taken at every General Election provided that a period of over two years has elapsed between polls. It is therefore necessary that all electors should unfailingly record their votes on the issue. Neglect to do so might make the impossible become possible, allowing prohibition to be imposed on New Zealand by a small minority. Here is the number of anti-prohibi-tion votes on the occasion of the last five referendums: 1922 318.396 1925 355,627 1928 438.778 1935 578,666 1938 643.126 This is convincing evidence that New Zealand refuses to indulge in a prohibition experiment. All the world has rejected prohibition because it is an acknowledged universal failure. Vote Continuance Hold fast to Liberty. *
