PATRIOTIC “TROTTING” CARNIVAL

SATURDAY’S MEETING ON COOK’S GARDENS Good fields have accepted for “Miss United Nations” Grand Patriotic Trotting Carnival to be held on Cook’s Gardens on Saturday next. The first race starts at 2 p.m. and the energetic committee is sparing no effort to ensure for patrons—be they punters or pessimists—a pleasant and possibly profitable afternoon. Excellent entries have been received from the baseball clubs, who will have many supporters. Their favourite, Remarkable, by Kind Words out of Ser-geant-Major, is stated to have staggered his followers recently. Sobriety (Pubs out of Spirits) still seems to prefer a wet track, and Little Bear (Torn out of Trousers) is causing his owner a great deal of anxiety. Eyes Right may have difficulty in getting down to serious work after a long spell. Nothing has been heard recently of Clarion Call (E.P.S. Controller out of Siren) except that he is having short gallops every Sunday morning. Land Speculator (Diddled out of Profits) has scratched for all future engagements after his bad run In the Parliamentary Hack Hurdles, but Land Agent (Deposits out of Savings) is still a steady battler. Yanks’ Delight (Kiwi out of New Zealand) is reported to have slackened off in his work since Digger came back to the stable, but The Lieut. (Pips out of The Blue, is ready to go any distance. No improvement may be expected of Whisky (Watered out of Recognition) and Sweet Music (Bubbling Beer out of Bottle) is likely to be favoured.

Successful Drive (Bottles out of Householders) had a great run last Saturday and his owners were well satisfied. However, this effort must have taken a lot out of him, and he cannot expect further public support for some time.
