WON BY D. HOLMES’ CREW The Aramoho Boating club’s season concluded on Saturday afternoon with the final for the Tesla Fours trophy, won by a canvas by D. Holme’s crew after an exciting race. Crews taking part in the final were: D. Holmes (str.), R. Godwin (3), W. James (2), A. Preator (bow), D. Holmes, jnr. (cox); R. F. Boyland (str.), A. Gifford (3), N. Peachey (2), D. Morrison (bow), A. Johnston (cox). The race was rowed in fine weather with ideal water conditions and was followed by many spectators. Fro/n the gun both crews shot smartly away, each battling to obtain the lead. At Webb’s shed Holmes had a canvas advantage, but at the Cliffs Boyland moved up and from then to the boatsfied both crews were rowing neck and neck. Passing under the bridge. Holmes was leading by four feet. From the bridge to the finish it was anybody’s race. Holmes eventually gaining the judge’s verdict by a canvas. The race was a fitting climax to the season’s rowing.
