WANGANUI SUB-CENTRE REPORT ACTIVITIES IN REMEW A successful year of activity is reviewed in the report of the Wanganui Sub-Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society (Incorporated), to be presented at the annual meeting to-night. i The report states that the majority of members are active and can be proud of the fact that it is discharging to the full both its peace-time work and also normal war work, which most of the members undertake either individually or as members of some other body. The sub-centre’s auxiliaries at Kaitoke, Westmere, and St. John’s Hill have accomplished much good work and assist in every possible way. Difficulty has been encountered regarding a supply of materials and representations have been made for a more liberal supply. The_ position, states ihe report, has improved, but there is still room for additional improvement. The Voluntary Aid 'yVorkers’ Committee has received valued assistance from the Victoria League, the Wanganui Women's Club, and the ladies’ committee fsom St. John’s Hill, who do their Red A-oss work in their rooms. The Voluntary Aid Committee training operations have met with marked success throughout the year and the following appointments have ’-een made from the sub-centre to the district command: Mrs. Lattey, centre advisory director; Sister Williams, centre commandant; Sister Westwood, assistant centre commandant Rad Cross Work Members actually engaged in Red 1 Cross work include Miss J. Lamont 1 and Miss G. Anderson (both overseas),, ' Miss L. Ballinger (hosnital ship). Miss . 'G. Izard and Miss M. Wainwright | (Rotorua Military Hospital), Mes-j dames Black, Brown and Wagstaff, • Misses Fergusson. Anderson and Neilson (Publie Hospital). Mesdames Spooner. Coughlin and Burrell (Jubi- > lee Home). During the year Voluntary Aids de-

tachments have served at hospitals at. Rotorua, Taihaoe, Raetihi, Patea and Palmerston North. _ Some have been on duty at the hospital in Wanganui and the Jubilee Home for some months, while six will be at the hosnital for the duration. The Voluntary Aid at the Soldiers’ Convalescent Hosnital in Rotorua is also serving for the duration. The majority of Red Cross trainees are doing their sixty hours’ training in hospital as they qualify. Red Cross aids have supplied the greater part of the nursing staff at St. Paul’s i Emergency Hospital, and on the last occasion staffed the emergency kiti chcn also. The detachments have assisted at ; various appeals during the year, including the Makogai lepers’ annual ■ appeal, the Red Cross general pur- • poses appeal, a “shop” day for sub-c'-ntre funds and two jumble sale*? for • detachment funds.
