AGAINST THE U-BOAT
JOINT ALLIED PLANS Recd. 6 p.m. London, March 16. A joint Admiralty and Air Ministiy communique states that a conference of American, British and Canadian officers has recently been held in Washington under the chairmanship of Admiral E. J. King, Commander-in-Chief of the United States Fleet, at which anti-U-boat warfare was discussed. This conference was one ot a series of Allied conferences which have been held, and will continue to be held In order that all phases of the anti-U-boat campaign can be kept constantly under review, views exchanged, and anii-U-boat measures adjusted to the best advantage. A complete agreement was reached on the policy to be pursued in the protection of Allied shipping in the Atlantic, and the best methoas of employing Allied escort vessels, antisubmarine craft, and aircraft in defeating the submarine menace. We have it from the highest authority that recent results throughout seven seas have been the most encouraging since the outbreak of the war. said Field-Marshal J. Smuts, in a broadcast. Fewer Allied merchantmen are being sunk and more U-boats are being destroyed but the menace remains.
