GIFT AFTERNOON HELD (O C.) Waitotara, March 16. A very enjoyable and well-attended public farewell and gift party was held in the Waitotara Hall, which had been arranged as a lounge. The large bowls of belladonna lilies and hydrangeas, artistically arranged, were much admired. The guest of honour was Mrs. George Webster, who has lived most of her life in Waitotara and for the last two years has been on the local post office staff. She and her husband (who recently returned from overseas) will make their home in New Plymouth. During the afternoon Mrs. C. S. Wood gave a recitation and Miss Joan Lea played several pianoforte solos. Two competitions were held and were won by Mrs. Wood and Miss McConachy. Mr; Train, in asking Mrs. Webster to accept the parcels from her friends and well-wishers, said that Mrs. Webster would St very much missed. She had always been a willing helper in all local activities and in the post office had been most obliging. All joined in wishing her and Mr. Webstar happiness in their new home. In reply Mrs. Webster thanked everyone tor the delightful afternoon and for their many gifts and good wishes. She said that her life in Waitotara haa been a happy one and she regretted leaving. A delicious afternoon tea was served in the supperroom, after which Mrs. Webster, assisted by Mrs. H. J. Wilson and Mrs. Handley opened the large number of parcels which contained many pretty and useful gifts waitotara bowling During the week-end Waverley was successful in winning the Handley Banner from Waitotara in a very closely-contested match in which the bowling was of a high standard. WASTE RUBBER AND PAPER COLLECTED Three large bales of waste paper and two railway trucks of rubber have been collected in Waitotara. The paper has been sent to the Whakatane Mills and the rubber to Penrose. Mr. W. A. Hurley has collected from the depots and carted to the station free of charge. The consignment was sent through the local patriotic committee, which should benefit considerably as a result of the collection.
