MINER COLLAPSES

PINNED UNDER FALL OF COAL (P.A.) Invercargill, March 16. After surviving for more than three hours under a fall of coal at lhe Birchwood mine at Ohai to-day. John Dahren, a miner, collapsed and died immediately after being ex.ricated. He was a married man, aged about 55, and had a family of four children. The fall occurred when Dahren was working at a face. He was completely buried bv the coal, but a rescue party was able to maintain conversation with him. Although the coal was removed as quickly as possible it was 5.30 o’clock by the time he was brought out. He was obviously weak after his experience, and he ! collapsed and died almost as soon as he was freed.
