SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS

RECONSTRUCTION WORK AT ■ WANGANUI EAST Reconstruction of the wooden building at the Wanganui East School, and general repairs to other buildings, had been completed, reported the architect, Mr. E. R. Hodge, at a meeting of the Wanganui Education Board yesterday. The new classroom section was occupied and painting work was being carried out. Certain asphalt repairs were delayed pending the return o£ two of the board’s workmen from Palmerston North. Mr. Hodge added that after the old Ghelter shed building at the Keith Street School was removed to a new position, the structure was re-erected and re-modelled. The original site of this building had been ringed with a concrete kerb and was now being used as a sand tray for infant children. Minor repairs had been carried out to floors and corridors at the Aramoho School and certain asphalt repairs were completed at the Hunterville School. The water tank and school pump at Turakina had been repaired. - A new 600-gallon water tank had been provided for the Parewanui School. Mr. Hodge intimated that if everything proceeded according to plan, the new school building at Upokongaro would be ready within six weeks. Construction had started and it was hoped to complete the frame within 10 days. Negotiations were in train for the necessary roof covering, which would be of tiles. Minor repairs were being carried out to buildings and equipment at the Wanganui Girls’ College.
