FAREWELL RECEPTION j (P.A.) Wellington, March 16. A farewell reception in honour of Mr. C. A. Berendsen, who has been appointed High Commissioner for New Zealand in Australia. and Mrs. Berendsen, was held in the Cabinet room at Parliament House yesterday, when the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and Mrs. Fraser, entertained a representative gathering

at afternoon tea. The guests included Ministers of the Crown, members of both Houses of Parliament, consular and trade representatives of the Allied nations, heads of State departments, representatives of the armed forces, and the staffs of the Prime Minister’s Department and the External Affairs Department—the two department of which Mr. Berendsen has been executive head. Mr. Berendsen left Wellington by the Limited express last night to take up his new appointment in Australia.

Gifts contributed to by members of the War Cabinet, the general Cabinet, the staffs of the Prime Minister’s and External Affairs Department and other friends, were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Berendsen by the Prime Minister. These included a collection of silver plate and a personal gift for Mr. Berendsen of a set of dress studs.
