SWIMMING CONTEST

BRIDGE-TO-BRIDGE RACE THIS AFTERNOON’S EVENT The annual bridge-to-bridge swimming race will be held in the Wanganui River to-day, when 26 men and two women will line up. The event is timed to begin at 2.30 p.m. from the pontoon of the Aramoho Boat Club, and will finish at the Town Bridge. The swimmers taking part are: Mrs. Alexander (Gonville), Miss V. Doyle (Central), Messrs. R. Lovett and R. O’Keefe (Gonville), V. James, L. Managh, N. Peachey, W. Davidson (all of Aramoho), D. Taunton, L. McCarthy (Wanganui East), B. Howarth (Central), G. Hooper, H. Davis, R. Sear, D. Ahern, D. Clifton, D. Binnie, E. Kershaw (all of Wellington), S. Gillespie, D. Turnbull, I. Butchart, W. G. Eyre, J. Davies, A. Palmer, A. Bignell, J. B. Cave, N. Robertson (all of Feilding), N. Webb (Marton). A collection will be taken up during the race.
