WASTE PAPER COLLECTION

SCHOOLBOYS' ASSISTANCE Senior boys from primary school) in Wanganui are giving valuable assistance in the drive for salvaginf clean waste paper. The scheme war inaugurated recently by the Head Teachers’ Association, acting In conjunction with the Committee for th« Reclamation of Waste Materials, and enables systematic collection in resi< dential areas.

Trailers are attached to City Council refuse trucks and two boys are allotted to each truck to attend to the waste paper and load it on to the trailers. To assist the scheme householders are asked to place the paper outside their premises, alongside the refuse tins.

A representative of the committee emphasised yesterday that regulations were gazetted recently prohibiting the destruction of waste paper, or its disposal in any manner other than, through authorised channels for reclaiming waste. "Citizens are urged to co-operate by placing all clean waste paper, old periodicals, magazines and journals in parcels outside their front gates on the days of ordinary household refuse collection,” he added. “In wet weather the paper should be covered by sacks or heavy cardboard, and preferably tied in bundles.

"The response so far has been satisfactory. but it is felt that residents could make a greater effort and develop the habit in the homo of collecting clean.waste paper and thus assist tltc war effort.”
