SOCIAL EVENING. ! ,0.C.) Raetihi, March 11. A pleasant social evening was held at the Orautoha Hall on Mondayevening last, when residents and friends from d wide distance gathered to farewell Spr. Eric Jones, who is on leave. During the evening, Major Gardner, D. 5.0., referred to the sterling qualities of this young man who, during his sojourn in our midst, had been a keen member of the Young Farmers’ Club, and had also enterea into any sport or function held in the district. On behalf of those gathered, it gave him great pleasure in presenting the guest of the evening with a well-filled purse. The recipient, in reply, thanked all present, saying he was taking away very happy memories of the wonderful friends he had made. On behalf of the Raetihi Patriotic Committee, Spr. Jones was presented with a holdall, which was duly acknowledged. The evening was occupied, with dancing and the rendering of two songs by Mr. Gus. Voelkerling. Supper was supplied by the ladies. The singing of “Auld Lang Lang Syne” brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
