BLAZE AT BLENHEIM

(P.A.) Blenheim, March 11. Fire and water damage was suffered by two shops in a two-storey building owned by the Carr estate in Market Street last night. The premises were the Wairau Pharmacy, owned by Mr. C. G. Whitehead, and Mr. F. Patchert's tailoring and men’s outfitting establishment. Fortunately some of the most inflammable material in the pharmacy’s bulk store escaped the flames. Heavy fumes and smoke made fire-fighting difficult, but the brigade limited the damage considerably.

The joinery workshop beloinging to Mr Calder, of Christchurch, a State housing contractor, was destroyed, involving serious loss of valuable machinery and workmen’s tools.
