RAIN DAMAGES THEATRE PIPE ORGAN
(P.A.) Christchurch, March 11. Damage which may run into hundreds of pounds was done to the organ in the Civic Theatre when water broke through the roof during a storm last night and flooded the pipes. The organ will be out of use for at least a month while slow heat is applied to the pipes in an endeavour to dry the skin reeds. This treatment has proved successful in the past witn other flooded organs, notably that at Trinity Congregational Church, and, in the opinion of experts, is the best method to adopt. At the height of the storm, when hail had blocked gutters and downpipes, water found its way into the theatre between the edge of the roof and the south wall of the theatre. The water cascaded into the grilles to the right of the proscenium and down into the pipes which the grilles conceal. At one stage the water pouring over the grilles looked like a water fall.
