NAZI DECREES

SCREW ON IN EUROPE MOBILISATION OF CZECHS AND GREEKS London, Feb. 27. “Czechs are to be totally mobilised for the German war effort,” said the German governor of the Czech Protectorate, Karl Frank, in a broadcast over Prague radio. “The same total mobilisation laws would apply to them as to the Germans,” said Frank. If Germany were defeated it would mean that the Czech towns and villages would go up in flames. Stalin could enter Germany a victor only over the body of every single German and every single Czech. Frank’s decree was followed by the Germans ordering the immediate mobilisation of Greek civilians between 16 and 45. A similar announcement is expected from other countries, though the Germans have already mobilised most of the manpower. The Berne correspondent of the New York Times says private dispatches from Berlin assert that a heavier draft of French labour is imminent as a result of Hitler’s new mobilisation order. It is stated that Laval has volunteered to introduce a more satisfactory procedure, replacing the present French labour draft, which has admittedly failed. Vichy radio said to-day. “Hitler’s declaration means that as France is a Continental nation, she must participate in the struggle against Bolshevism. Frenchmen must show a common front and prove their adherence to the new order not by empty gestures but by convincing action for Germany.” “Hitler is putting the screw on Europe,” says the Sunday Express, referring to reports that the Germans are mobilising men, women, and children to fieht and work for the preservation of Germany. It is reported from Ankara that the German envoys to Rumania, Yugoslavia, and Slovakia have delivered Notes to the Governments emphasising the seriousness of the situation, and peremptorily insisting on maximum heln. Three thousand Dutch workers have been sent to Germany to be trained in semi-military work. Simultaneously terror and sabotage are flaring up. One hundred and forty economic experts, sixteen generals, and three admirals are holding an urgent conference in Europe to discuss methods of matching the flood of war materials from the United Nations which is now, in spite of the U-boats, reaching the fronts, especially in Russia and Africa, says the Berlin correspondent of the Stockholm Dagens Nyheter.
