WASTE-PAPER EFFORT

WANGANUI SCHOOL BOYS TO ASSIST Subject to the observance of certain conditions Wanganui schoolboys will assist in the collection of clean waste paper in the residential area. This decision was agreed to at a meeting of the Wanganui Head Teachers’ Association. The conditions are: (1) The service to be voluntary; (2) parents are to signify their consent to head teachers; (3) the boys undertaking the work will be drawn from from Standards 5 and 6, and below these standards only if a boy is 12 years of age or over.

The boys participating in this scheme will be pupils from the primarv and the Catholic schools. Based on i*he present fortnightly collections 300 bovs will be required to give service during each school term. This will enTiil one half-day’s absence from school per boy per term. It is felt that the parents of eligible l/.s will be only too pleased to co-oper-nt ■> in this scheme aimed to promote the best interests of a distinct phase of the national economy. It would be appreciated if their consent were forthcoming as mentioned and head teachers advised as earlv as possible this week so that arrangements for the assistance of the boys may be completed.
