REGENT THEATRE
“Eyes of the Underworld.” which heads the double feature programme at the Regent Theatre to-day, is a thrilling melodrama, in which Lon Chaney gives what is described as “a fearsome performance in a role as terrifying as “Frankenstein.” Wendy Barrie and Richard Dix are also prominent. Dix is cast as an honest, efficient police chief, devoted to his motherless son. Giving him able support throughout the unfoidment ot the story are such outstanding players as Wendy Barrie, who shares the romantic niche with him; Billy Lee, as Dix’s offspring; Don Porter, as an investigator; Lloyd Corrigan, as the city council president and tool of the crooks; and Lon Chaney, seen as the chief’s stir-crazy chauffeur. Comedy is the keynote of the associate feature, "Shepherd of the Ozarks,” • featuring the Weaver brothers and Elviry. The fun in this centres round the efforts of the yokels inhabiting Weaverville to repel what they consider to be a hostile invasion, but the invaders happen to be United States troops engaged in exercises. There is a merry mix-up before things are straightened out.
