OPERA HOUSE
“The Gold Rush," which screens finally at the Opera House to-day, is an entertaining production. Charlie Chaplin’s adventures on the frozen goldfields are very amusing, but there are touches of pathos which create effective contrast and prove again that great comedy is akin to tragedy. One of the funniest sequences is that in which the comedian is trapped in a hut on the edge of a cliff. "This is Blitz” is an extensively interesting “short,” in which tribute is paid to the American forces. *‘A Gentleman After Dark.”
Brian oonlevy shared honours with Miriam Hopkins and Preston Foster in the new film, “A Gentleman Alter Dark,” which screens at the Opera House to-morrow. It is an exiting drama of the upper-crust of the under-crust of the under-world and one that the audience strenuously applauded upon its conclusion. Although Donlevy plays the role ot a jewel thief extraordinary and a convict, his part carries with it the entire sympathy of the picture, that ot a father's sacrifice tor his daughter. Miriam Hopkins handles the difficult role of his wife with her usual superb acting and understanding, it’s worth the price of admission alone to see her wardrobe, which is the last word in smartness. Preston Foster, as the detective who becomes a judge, is excellent.
