THE TURF

WOODVILLE MEETING PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY Back on its own course for the autumn meeting to-day, the Woodville District Jockey Cluh appears certain to attract generous support from the Manawatu district as well as Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa, and probably there will be a lucky few who can get through from Rangitikei, petrol restrictions notwithstanding. The track is generally found in excellent order. Betting will be win-and-place. Main event on the programme is the Woodville Handicap, which has attracted fourteen acceptors, among whom are Yogi, Gladynev, Enrich, Lambourn and Classform. Probably the favourite will come from this division, but three on the minimum who will not be friendless are Gay Genet, Stairway and Triple Crown. The sprinters in the Ruahine Handicap are a strong field, and Autolite, Koi Ragi, Caroline Bay, Black Robe, Ivar and Duality will be well supported. Improvers in this class may include Sir Bradbury, Pompit and Lady Acora. Keen interest will be taken in the Sapling Stakes, in which there are twenty youngsters.

Provision has been made for divisions in three events, but defections may obviate the necessity save in the Maiden Plate. Brackets in the Maiden Plate will be: Incline and Dash Up: Merger and Merlac: Midian Star and Nantuckey; Night Super and Opaltown; Phoenix and Pindarus: Prince Alchemic and Quick Decision: Rickie and Singanore; Social Climber and Solver; Tamakaha and Tea Coat: Te Ngarara and Thornbush; Valebit and Wedding Dress: Wheriko Lass and Young Bill. The following may appeal:— Maiden Plate.—First Division: Solver, Quick Decision. Second Division: Dash Up, Battle Zone. Oringi Highweight. Authoress,
