GANDHI’S CONDITION Bombay, Feb. 18. Anxiety about Mr. Gandhi’s condition deepens. A medical bulletin states that his heart action is feebler. Four new official members of the Government were sworn in as members of the Central Assembly when the Assembly met this morning. London, Feb. 18. “The big business backers of the Congress Party—the Great Rupee Ring—are scared that the great Gandhi might die, in the event of Which thev fear that strikes and industrial dislocation would affect the biggest boom in India for years.” says the Bombay correspondent of the Daily Mail. “These big business men, with cold cynicism, are urging the Government to release Gandhi. They gambled on Britain’s defeat they backed Gandhi last August, but when the tide of war turned in Britain’s favour they tried to forget the quit India resolution. Their sincerity has been discredited. It has been revealed that they do not support those who believe India should receive immediate freedom, so Gandhi, hitherto a profitable investment of the Rupee Ring, starves in Poona against the wishes of his biggest (Recd. 11 p.m.) London, Feb. 18. Gandhi's condition is causing increasing anxiety. The Bombay Government issued a bulletin stating that, although Gandhi slept nine hours, he was not refreshed or mentally alert. There was other evidence of euremia, which is progressive. His heart action is more feeble.

Poona doctors carried out an exhaustive examination of Gandhi late to-day and left the Aga Khan's palace looking worthed. It is understood that Gandhi has shown no inclination to talk since this morning and is showing no interest in visitors.

The Bombay Government is at present considering the doctor's reports.
