E.P.S. IN WELLINGTON
REDUCTION IN TRAINING PERIODS (P.A.) Wellington, Feb. 19. Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor, and district E.P.S. controller in Wellington, has suggested to the Regional Commissioner of the E.P.S. that the organisation should remain as at present with all enrolled members continuing liable for duty, that training periods should be reduced to a maximum of about one monthly, E.P.S. controllers, unit leaders and key personnel to continue with their ragular work in order to ensure that channels of communication composed of volunteers be set up and go through the course proposed at the recent conference.
“If the above scheme is approved," he says, “the existing general situation will be met without risk of disrupting the whole organisation, while at the same time considerable relaxation from actual training of all members will be brought about and the intensifying of the training of selected volunteer members will be ensured."
Mr. Hislop says the Mayor of Auckland has expressed himself as practically in accord with the proposals.
again early yesterday morning. Despite the delay and the strain of travelling the local men showed their worth, and Marr and his partner went right through without a loss to secure the open pairs title for 1943. No doubt the Maxton Club jpowlers will give them a royal welcome when they assemble for play this afternoon MARTON UNITED SERVICES CLUB Mrs. G .B. Gregory presided at a meeting of the United Services Club Committee on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was an open one, all helpers having been invited to be present, an< in spite of very wet weather then was a good attendance of those interested.
Reports /bowed that equipment at the club r/oms is still being added to, and every’ effort is being made for th comfort and entertainment of visitors. Mrs. Knox has very generously lent her -'ano to the club, and with the help of Mr. Lilly it has now been installed and. retuned. Loans of song books and other suitable music would be welcomed by the committee. The ping-pong table is proving very popular though unfortunately the balls are suffering from much use. Gifts of spare balls would be very acceptable as these are unprocurable in the shops. Another big improvement has been the acquisition of a gas caliphont which through the kind offices of the Marton Borough Council is now in use in the bath-room.
