Flying-Officer Basil Gray, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gray, Wavorley, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, states the Waverley correspondent of the “Chronicle.”

The Rt. Rev. H. J. O’Neill is to be consecrated Coadjutor Bishop of Dunedin at St. Joseph’s Cathedral on March 25. The consecrating prelate will be Archbishop O’Shea, of Wellington.

Mr. H. G. Johnston, who has been an inspector in the Wellington Education Board’s district for the past six vears, has been transferred to Auckland. He was bidden farewell by the board on Wednesday. Mr. J. M. Smith, Fields Superintendent, Department of Agriculture, Auckland, has arrived in Wellington to take up the position of supervisor of services vegetable production. This appointment is for the duration of the war

Mr. H. .J. Thornton, a former assist-ant-secretary of the Wanganui Education Board, has completed 21 years’ service as secretary of the Nelson Education Board. In acknowledgment of his service he was the recipient of a presentation from board members and the staff.

Mr. G. W. Sampson, acting district engineer, Public Works Department, has been admitted into membership of the Wanganui Rotary Club. He has been associated with the Public Works Department since 1920, and for seven years was engaged on the survey ana construction of the Mangahao, Aranuni and Waikaremoana transmission lines. Before coming to Wanganui Mr. Sampson was stationed in Greymouth.

Miss Margaret Andrews, Wanganui East, has been advised that she has been awarded a medical bursary by the Health Department. She has also been notified that she has been successful in gaining a bursary awarded by the Education Department. An old girl of the Wanganui Girls’ College and Wanganui East Schoo], Miss Andrews is a daughter of Cr. R. P. Andrews and Mrs. Andrews, of Eastown Road.
