SWIMMING CONTESTS

DURIE HILL CARNIVAL HIGH STANDARD OF DIVING With many representatives from outside clubs there was keen competition and close finishes at the recent Durie Hill Swimming Club’s carniyai. The standard of diving was high, one of the features being the performance of Miss N. Ruscoe, intermediate North Island champion, while Miss J. Goeffic excelled in the junior section. R. Stringer, who has been indisposed in recent weeks, attended and showed good form, winning the intermediate dive from a strong field of contestants. During an interval the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band played selections which were appreciated by the gathering.

CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED Despite the dull weather there was a fair attendance at the Central Swimming Club’s baths last night, when the club’s championships were decided. An interesting visitor was M. Dixon, North Island diving champion. A good performance was put up by L. Christian (a Wanganui representative swimmer) when he equalled the district record of 29 2-ssec. for 50 yards.
