OPEN PAIRS TOURNEY

WANGANUI BOWLING CENTRE SECTION PLAY OPENS Postponed from Tuesday until yesterday on account of heavy rain, section play in the Wanganui Bowling Centre’s open pairs tournament commenced under very heavy green conditions. A hot sun early in the morning dried up the greens considerably and playing conditions were quite good during the afternoon. Fortyeight pairs are taking part, the visiting players being from Marton and Ohakune. Players on the Wanganui green were welcomed by the president, Mr. W. J. Stone, and the vice-president, Mr. C. Haworth, officiated at the St. John’s green. Players are divided into eight sections, six in each, four rounds being played yesterday and the fifth and final round will be played y this morning, after which those qualifying will assemble on the Wanganui green for post-section play. The following are the leading teams at the conclusion of the fourth round:— Section A. —Herd 4 wins, W. M. Gordon 3. Section B.—Stone, Reynolds and Glover, 3 wins each. Section C.—W. Harris and Goodey, 4 wins. Section D.—Quarterman, 3 wins. Section E.—Goebel 4 wins, Edlln 3 wins. Section F.—Brass 4 wins, Boyd 3 wins. Section G.—Marr and Beard 4 wins each. Section H.—Fletcher 4 wins, C. S. Brown 3 wins.
