SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs. F. Webb Jones, Wanganui, is visiting Christchurch. Mrs. F. Lord, Christchurch, who has been the guest of Mrs. E. W. Andrews, Brunswick, left yesterday to continue her holiday in Auckland and Rotorua.

Mrs. T. R. Ellis is a Wanganui visitor to Napier and Gisborne.

Mrs. C. Ellery, Gonville, leaves today for a holiday in Gisborne.

Mrs. J. W. Tizard, Bay of Islands, is the guest of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Tizard, Upper Aramoho. Mrs. W. Tustin, of Wellington, who has been visiting Wanganui, has returned to her home. Mrs. J. Neumann, “Netherleigh,” No. 3 Line, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Hammond, Wellington, has returned.

At a recent meeting of Army Relations it was decided that they will take charge of the soldiers’ tea at the Y.M.C.A. on the last Sunday in March.

The Gonville branch of the Plunket Society will hold a children’s plain and fancy dress party in St. Peter’s Hall, Gonville, on Saturday, February 20. There will also be a baby show, “bring and buy” stall and afternoon tea.

Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Boyes, Selwyn Street, visited Wellington for the wedding of their son, Mr. Lyell Boyes, and Miss Patricia Ikin, which took place on Monday. Dr. and Mrs. G. J. Adams, of Wanganui, were also guests at the wedding. The death occurred on Saturday last at a Wellington private hospital of Mrs. H. E. Dryden, a much loved and resnected resident of Paekakariki. Mrs. Dryden had been in indifferent health for a considerable time. She came from an early pioneer family, being the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. S. Dryden. She was born in Picton in 1866 and after a few years in Marlborough and at Dryden’s Bay, Queen Charlotte Sound (the bay being named after her father), came to Wellington with her parents in the seventies. Mrs. Dryden was an active member of the Methodist Church, both from its inception in Karori and latterly in Paekakariki, rendering inspirational service in both localities. After 40 years’ married liffe in Karori, she moved about seven years ago to Paekakariki with her husband, where she was living at the time of her death. While in Karori, Mrs. Dryden endeared herself to a large circle of friends. She was a keen member of the Karori Ladies’ Croquet Club, and afterward of the Paekakariki Ladies’ Croquet Club. Mrs. Dryden is survived by her husband, three sons, two daughters and eight grandchildren.
