FORMER WANGANUI BOY AMONG TEN NAMED
(P.A.) Wellington, Jan. 27. After undergoing a course at the Army School of Instruction at Trentham, ten young men have been selected as the 1943 entrants to the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia, the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, announced to-day. The Minister said applications had been received from all parts of New Zealand and were considered by district commandants of the three military districts. Those who came up to the required standard then went before a special selection board. Following are the chosen candidates:—
Richard Stanley Harris, of Nelson, educated at Nelson College. lan James Hellyer, of Havelock North, educated at Napier Boys' High School. Peter William Frank Joplin, of Wellington, educated at Wellington College and is the holder of the Bronze Medallion and two bars in life-saving.
Joseph Stewart Manning, of Christchurch, educated at St. Bede’s College. Stanley Redvers McKeon, of New Plymouth, educated at New Plymouth Boys’ High School. Bruce Poananga, of Tikitikiorangi, Ruatoria, educated at Palmerston North Bovs’ High School. He is the first member of the Maori race selected to enter Duntroon and is at present serving in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
Ralph Kenneth Grey Porter, of Auckland, educated at Auckland Grammar School. He holds the Bronze Medallion in life-saving. William Alexander Simpson, of Wellington, educated at Wanganui Technical College. He holds com/nissioned rank in the Territorial Force.
Maxwell Tebutt, of Whangarei, educated at Whangarei High School.
