FOOD FOR INDIA
SHIPMENTS OF WHEAT Rugby, Jan. 24. A communique dealing with the food situation in India issued in New Delhi to-day by the Government of India says that the Government is aware that wheat has been particularly short in supply while the prices of other grains have risen considerably. The Government believes that these shortages are due less to the lots of Burma and other war conditions than to hoarding by producers, dealers and consumers alike, and there is little danger of the people in India having to undergo any serious reduction in their normal requirements if these supplies can equitably be distributed. The Government, therefore, is able to announce that substantial shipments of wheat reaching India in the next few months will be allocated under Government orders to deficit areas where Government agencies will supervise the distribution at reasonable prices to the ultimate consumers. Steps are being taken to prevent further hoarding.—B.O.W,
