AWARDED GEORGE MEDAL
SOLOMONS POLICE OFFICER Rugby, Jan. 4. The George Medal has been awarded to a retired sergeant-major of police named Vouza, states tonight's London Gazette. Stationed on Guadalcanal Vouza was caught by the Japanese and closely questioned on the whereabouts of American troops. He refused to divulge information and was tied to a tree and bayoneted in the arm, shoulder, face, and stomach and left for dead. He crawled into the United States Marines’ lines and although on. the verge of collapse reported all information before seeking medical aid. —8.0.W.
