CALLS TO FIRES

FIRE BRIGADE BUSY The Wanganui Central Fire Brigade responded to two calls on Saturday and the Castlecliff sub-station to one. The first call at the Central Station was received at 2.47 a.m. to No. 12 Nixon Street, where a wash-house attached to a kitchen was found to be ablaze. Both were gutted. The second was at 11.10 a.m. to a house in Ingestre Street, near the entrance of the racecourse, where slight damage was done to a wash-house. A bucket pump was used to extinguish the lire.

The Castlecliff Brigade answered a call to a grass fire in Carson Street. Approximately 800 feet of hose was used to put out the blaze. At 6.55 p.m. yesterday the Central Brigade was called to a grass fire on the Castlecliff railway line, near Carlton Terrace. No damage was done.
