PROSECUTIONS PENDING
(Recd. 9 p.m.) Sydney, Jan. 3. Hundreds of workers who absented themselves from their jobs in war production industries here on New Year’s Day will be prosecutedThe Government believes many of the 35,000 absentee workers were unable to work because key men were absent. Consequently the majority of the prosecutions are likely to concern the key men. Attorney-General, Dr. H. V. Evatt, who will make the prosecutions, described the one-day stoppage as “deplorable and insensible and a blot on the war effort of the nation.” The National Security Regulations provide for fines up to £lOO or six months’ gaol.
