CONTRAST STRESSED
HITLER’S SPEECH TWO YEARS AGO—AND NOW
(Reed. 9 p.m.) New York, Jan. 2. “Even the dullest German eyes will not miss the sharp contrast between Hitler’s latest proclamation and his boasts in 1941, when he promised the consummation of the greatest victory in German history with the great New Order for Europe,” says the New York Times in an editorial. "Now he warns that the struggle will still be hard and says that Germany will never be conquered and will never capitulate. What must be the state of the German people who, after an assurance that triumphant peace is as good as won, are now told that their hardest tasks are still ahead? There must be millions of troubled German hearts as they contemplate the holocaust of German life in Russia, the growing power of the British Air Force, and the spectre of unexpended resources of America and the New World.”
