BRITISH ATTITUDE “MUST SUFFICE”

(Recd. 11 p.m.) London, Jan. 2. The Argentine Government’s defence of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs is noted in London but has not induced the British Foreign Office to revise its judgment of the manner in which the Argentine Foreign Ministry handled the unofficial expression of opinion, says the diplomatic correspondent of The Times. “The Washington State Department’s endorsement of the British statement is welcomed. The endorsement.shows plainly that there, as well as here, Axis attempts to popularise the legend of British and American differences of opinion about Argentine neutrality are being closely followed and well understood. A further statement is unlikely from London. The British attitude has been defined and it is hoped it will suffice.”
