MARTON NEWS

THE CIVIC THEATRE The "escape” from the turmoil of present-day problems to realms of romance and music, which is an important need of audiences to-day, is answered in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s "Smilin’ Through,” at the Civic Theatre, starring Jeanette MacDonald and Brian Aherne, with Gene Raymond. Filmed in Technicolor and replete with some of the most delightful music ever to reach the screen, sung by Miss MacDonald, "Smilin’ Through” presents the star in the dual part of the old-fashioned heroine, Moonyean, and her modern niece Kathleen. It is the death of Meonyean on her wedding day to Aherne, who enacts the role of Sir John Cartaret, wnlcii forms the basis of the story of a love that endured fifty years and coaouered death. QOUND Advice to Ladies’ Corset Buying.—Buy when and where you can from present stocks held by retailers. Rubber difficulties forbid the reproduction of old qualities and values. Lloyds Ltd., Marton, claim to hold big stocks of Berlei products and can give skilled corsetry fitting service free.
