AMERICAN SERVICEMEN

NOVEL RADIO PROGRAMME A radio programme entitled ‘‘Paging Uncle Sam," organised by the United States Navy, Army and Marine Corps, was given from a New Zealand station on Sunday night. It was recorded for subsequent rebroadcasting in America to parents and sweethearts of Americans in the Dominion. In addition to the musical numbers, which included several popular songs, comments were made by visitors on their impressions of New Zealand and its people. Rotorua was compared with the Yellowstone Park, the famous thermal region in the United States. Witty references were made to left-hand driving, the use of knife and fork, New Zealand slang terms, and the progress made in the use of strange money. Men from four different States provided the entertainment, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the listeners. The United States Navy and Army comperes and one New Zealand compere afforded an interesting comparison of styles.
