BRAWL AT BONDI

DESERTERS ARRESTED BY POLICE Sydney, Dec. 25. Sixteen civilians and 15 soldiers were arrested in an hour-long brawl at Bondi, involving nearly 2000 people as well as many military and civilian police. When the military police attempted to arrest three soldiers on charges of desertion civilians interfered. The police state that there weie at least 50 separate fights at one stage. One arrested man had almost every piece of clothing torn from his body, and he was,placed in a military truck wearing only his shoes and socks. Some people were treated for minor injuries. Peak traffic in the popular seaside suburb was held up for an hour.
