PEDESTRIANS DEATH

ROAD FATALITY NEAR WHANGAREI (P.A.) Whangarei, Dec. 28 Exactly a week after an almost identical fatality on the same stretch of road an accident, accompanied by loss of life, occurred on the KaitaiaAwanui Road on Christmas Eve. The victom was Wireless Operator Keith Israel Blackburn, a member of the R.N.Z.A.F., a single man of Kaitangata, who recived injuries from which he died in the Kaitaia Hospital on Christmas Day. Mr. D .W. Hoey, baker and confectioner, Awanui. was driving a car from Kaitaia within a short distance of Awanui. Rain was falling ar.d, as was the case when the fatality occurred the previous week, the driver was blinded by the headlights of two oncoming vehicles and did not see the nedestrian until the last minu'e. He was struck bv the left headlamp of the car and was taken to hospital unconscious. He did not rally.
