WAVERLEY CLUB

NEW SEASON OPENED The Waverley Bowling Club opened its 1942-43 season on Saturday and a large number of visitors and members were present. The president, Mr. Sam Bromiley, welcomed the visitors and before calling on Mrs. Bromiley to roll the first kitty, and Mr. Jas. Salter the first bowl, said that he felt he was voicing the wishes of all present that they should remember those to whom they owed the possibility of playing boxtis—the men in the armed forces. Detailed results of play are:— Castle, Stewart, McDonald. Hodgetts 15, v. Tennent (Waitotara), Belton, Scadden, Aiken 8; Bilton, Southcombe, Cunningham. Bromiley 9, v. Stretto. Haworth, Shield, Carey (all Patea) 29; Parks, Chapple, Salter, A. Howie 21, v. Roberts, Morgan. Fowler, Pepper 15; Worthington, Bromiley, Hay, R. Howie 19, v. Henderson, Ramsbottom, White, Bourke 19; Foley, M. Brewer, Heginbotham, Dalton 8, v. Maule, McClymont, Tai Ngapaki, Sheehan (all Patea) 33; Baskin. Downs, Simson, Wicks 19, v. W. Aiken, Brown, Alexander, Southcombe 17; Winhams, Munro, Cook, Blackie 16, v. Lampitt, Hillmer, P. Brewer, Dallison 15. At the conclusion of the play Mr. Shield, president of the Patea Club, thanked the Waverley Club for an enjoyable afternoon’s play, and called for three cheers for the ladies who had kindly provided afternoon tea.
