DEATH OF MR. W. D. LYSNAR
FORMER M.P. FOR GISBORNE (P.A.) Gisborne, Oct. 12. The death occurred this morning after a short illness of Mr. William Douglas Lysnar, former Member of Parliament. He was born in Auckland in 1867 and for some years was in law with Mr. E. Ward, barrister. In 1887 he joined Messrs. Sievwright and de Lautour, but in 1892 commenced in practice on his own account. He served with the East Coast Hussars against Te Kcoti natives. In his local body work the late Mr. Lysnar was a member of the borough council and Mayor of Gisborne from 1908 to 1911 and chairman of the Gisborne Farmers’ Meat Company. He defeated the late Sir James Carroll in the 1919 Parliamentary elections and remained in office until 1931, when he was defeated byMr. D. W. Coleman and unsuccessfully contested the seat again in 1935.
